A Tanzania honeymoon safari and Zanzibar beach stay works well in 8 to 10 days. With our live packages, a 3-day private fly-in Serengeti and Ngorongoro safari starts from US$2,068 and a 5-day Zanzibar beach holiday from US$1,210, so a full bush-and-beach honeymoon starts from about US$3,278 before tips.

Lions at sunrise, a night on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, then a week of white sand and warm Indian Ocean water: that is why so many couples from the USA, UK and Europe choose Tanzania for their honeymoon. Because Lekobe Adventures and Safaris is based in Zanzibar, our safaris start and finish at your Zanzibar hotel, so you can plan the whole trip around one island base. This guide shows how a honeymoon safari fits together, which of our private trips suit couples best, and what the trip really costs.
Why Tanzania and Zanzibar work so well for a honeymoon
Most honeymooners want two things that rarely sit in the same country: unforgettable wildlife and genuine downtime. Tanzania gives you both within a short flight. The big northern parks, including the Serengeti National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater, are on the mainland, while Zanzibar Island sits just off the coast.
Private by design
Every safari recommended in this guide is listed as a private tour on its trip page, and most are marked “not for solo travellers”, which means they are built for two or more guests. On a private safari you have the vehicle and guide to yourselves, so you choose when to linger at a lion sighting and when to head back for a shower and a sundowner. If you are still deciding, our guide to shared vs private safaris in Tanzania compares the two.
Fly in, skip the long drives
Our honeymoon-friendly safaris are fly-in trips. A typical first day starts with a 5:00 am pickup from your Zanzibar hotel and an 8:00 am flight to the Serengeti (some routes transit via Arusha). You land in the park, meet your guide and start game driving the same morning. On the last day you fly from Arusha back to Zanzibar and are transferred to your hotel. Flights during the tour are included in the price.
Can start any day
Each trip page lists “can start any day” and “can be customized”, which matters for weddings: you do not need to fit around a fixed group departure. Tell us your wedding date and flight times and we build the honeymoon around them.

Best for a short, classic honeymoon safari
The 3-day Serengeti and Ngorongoro fly-in is the simplest way to see Tanzania’s two most famous wildlife areas. You spend day one and the morning of day two game driving in the Serengeti, drive to the Ngorongoro highlands for the night, then descend into the crater on day three before flying back to Zanzibar.
Best for a more romantic, slower pace
The 4-day luxury safari adds Tarangire National Park and a night at Mawe Mawe Lodge, where the itinerary describes dinner with views of elephants. Four days instead of three gives you one less early start per park and more time to enjoy the camps together. See our Tarangire National Park page for what to expect there.
Best for the Great Migration
The 4-day fly-in migration trip lands at Kogatende airstrip in the northern Serengeti, then moves to the central Serengeti and ends with a night on the Ngorongoro crater rim. Where the herds are depends on the month, so check our Great Migration month-by-month guide before you fix your dates.
Best for something different
If you have seen East African plains before, the 2-day fly-in to Nyerere National Park offers a boat safari on the Rufiji River, a bush walk and a swim at the Majimoto hot spring, with an optional night game drive. Read more on our Nyerere National Park page.
How much does a Tanzania honeymoon safari with Zanzibar cost?
The easiest way to budget is to add a safari to a beach package. Our 5-Day Zanzibar Beach Holiday Adventure starts from US$1,210 and includes airport transfers, a Safari Blue snorkelling day, Jozani Forest with jet skiing at sunset in Nungwi, and a Stone Town, Prison Island and spice farm tour. Nights are at Kisiwa on the Beach in Paje and Nungwi Dreams by Mantis.
| Honeymoon style | Built from | Approx. length | Combined “from” price (USD) |

| Classic bush and beach | 3-Day Serengeti & Ngorongoro Fly-in + 5-Day Beach | 8 days | $3,278 |
| Slow and romantic | 4-Day Luxury Safari (Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Tarangire) + 5-Day Beach | 9 days | $3,300 |
| Migration honeymoon | 4-Day Fly-in Migration + 5-Day Beach | 9 days | $3,630 |

A sample 9-day Tanzania honeymoon itinerary
This plan combines the 4-day luxury safari with our 5-day beach holiday. We put the safari first so you finish on the beach, rested, rather than flying home straight after a string of early game drives.
- Day 1 – Zanzibar to the Serengeti: 5:00 am hotel pickup, 8:00 am flight, arrival at Seronera airstrip around 11:00 am, afternoon game drive, night at Nyota Luxury Camp.
- Day 2 – Serengeti to Ngorongoro: morning game drive, then a roughly 3-hour transfer game drive to the crater rim and Ngorongoro Kuhama Camp.
- Day 3 – Ngorongoro Crater: early descent into the crater, lunch by Hippo Lake, then about two hours to Tarangire and Mawe Mawe Lodge.
- Day 4 – Tarangire: sunrise game drive, lunch in the park, drive about an hour to Arusha Airport and fly back to Zanzibar.
- Days 5–9 – Zanzibar beach: Paje and Nungwi, Safari Blue snorkelling, Jozani Forest and a sunset jet ski, Stone Town and the spice farm, then your departure transfer.
Want more time to do nothing at all? Ask us to replace one of the beach excursions with a free day at your hotel. Because every trip is customisable, this is a simple change.
Planning tips for honeymooners
Plan around early starts
Safari pickups from Zanzibar are early: 5:00 am on our northern fly-in safaris and 4:00 am on the Nyerere fly-in. Avoid booking your first safari day for the morning after a late international arrival.
Know a little about Ngorongoro
According to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority, the conservation area covers 8,292 km² and is home to the volcanic Ngorongoro Crater, which the authority describes as the world’s largest unbroken caldera. Spending a night on or near the rim, as several of our itineraries do, lets you start the crater descent early.
Pack light for small planes
Fly-in safaris use small aircraft, so keep safari luggage compact and leave beachwear at your Zanzibar hotel if you are returning there. Our safari packing guide covers the essentials.
Sort the paperwork early
Check our guides to Tanzania travel requirements and inbound travel insurance for Zanzibar before you book flights, and always confirm entry rules with the official authorities.
Frequently asked questions
How many days do you need for a Tanzania safari and Zanzibar honeymoon?
Eight to ten days is a comfortable length. That allows a 3- or 4-day fly-in safari to the Serengeti and Ngorongoro, plus around five days on Zanzibar. If you only have a week, our 7-day Zanzibar beach package with a one-day Mikumi safari starts from US$1,815 and keeps travel time to a minimum.
How much does a Tanzania honeymoon safari cost?
With our live packages, a bush-and-beach honeymoon starts from about US$3,278, combining the 3-day Serengeti and Ngorongoro fly-in (from US$2,068) with the 5-day Zanzibar beach holiday (from US$1,210). Add drinks, tips of US$10 per person per day and international flights. Final quotes depend on dates, group size and hotels.
Should we do the safari or Zanzibar first?
We usually suggest the safari first. Game drives mean early mornings and plenty of time in a vehicle, so ending on the beach lets you rest before the long flight home. Our safaris start and end at your Zanzibar hotel, so either order works if your international flights make the other way round easier.
Is a private safari worth it for a honeymoon?
For most couples, yes. A private safari gives you your own vehicle and guide, flexible timing at sightings and no strangers sharing the experience. All the honeymoon safaris in this guide are listed as private tours, can start any day and can be customised around your wedding date and flights.
When is the best time for a Tanzania honeymoon?
Our private safaris can start any day of the year, so the right month depends on your priorities. If seeing the Great Migration matters most, check where the herds are each month in our migration guide. For weather, wildlife and crowds across the year, read our guide to the best time to visit Tanzania before booking.
