Requirements vary depending on your nationality and country of origin — but don’t worry, we’ve outlined everything you need to ensure a smooth entry into Tanzania.
📘 Passport & Visa Requirements
✅ Passport Validity
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of arrival in Tanzania.
✅ Visa Requirements
All travelers require a tourist or business visa to enter Tanzania. You can obtain your visa in one of two ways:
- Online (e-Visa): Apply in advance via the Tanzania Immigration Portal.
- On Arrival: Available at major ports of entry for single-entry visas, provided all immigration conditions are met.
🔹 Visa Fees:
- Most nationalities: $50
- U.S. citizens: $100
- Payment on arrival is best made in USD notes printed after 2006
🔹 Note: Romanian citizens do not require a visa to enter Tanzania.
🔹 Multiple-entry visas are not available on arrival.
🔹 Referral visa applicants (certain nationalities) should apply at least two months before travel and avoid booking flights until approval is granted.
✅ Work & Volunteer Permits
Those planning to work or volunteer must apply for a valid work permit in advance through the Immigration website. Employers or sponsoring organizations should coordinate this on your behalf.
🦠 COVID-19 Entry Guidelines
If You’re Fully Vaccinated:
- No COVID-19 test is required prior to arrival.
- A valid vaccination certificate with a QR code must be presented, confirming WHO-approved vaccines.
If You’re Not Fully Vaccinated:
- Travelers aged 12+ must either:
- Present a negative RT-PCR/NAAT test taken within 72 hours before departure (QR code required), or
- Take a Rapid Antigen Test on arrival at their own cost ($10 USD / TZS 23,000)
If you test positive, you’ll be required to undergo a confirmatory RT-PCR test at a cost of $50 USD.
Exemptions:
- Children under 12 and airline crew are exempt from testing.
- Domestic travel between Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar is not subject to COVID-19 restrictions.
Transiting Passengers:
Travelers transiting through Tanzania by air are exempt from vaccination and COVID-19 testing, but must follow requirements of their destination or carrier.

💉 Yellow Fever Requirements
Yellow Fever vaccination is required only if:
- You are arriving from or transiting through a Yellow Fever endemic country for 12 hours or more.
Direct arrivals from non-endemic countries (like Europe or North America) are not required to present a Yellow Fever certificate. However, travelers passing through countries like Kenya or Uganda for extended layovers should be vaccinated.

Before traveling, ensure you are up-to-date with the following routine immunizations:
- Measles-Mumps-Rubella (MMR)
- Diphtheria-Tetanus-Pertussis (DTP)
